Having sites on the Internet like YouTube and myspace it is so much easier for people to produce their own music and put it on the Internet. Artists don't necessarily need major labels anymore as they can just upload their music on the Internet.
Many artist have found fame after gaining a huge amount of followers on myspace after uploading their own music, without any help from a major record label. A good example of this is Lily Allen who's career started in myspace. Anyone can upload music onto the Internet like Justin Beiber who posted videos of him singing on YouTube and it landed him a record deal.
On shows such as Top of the pops music videos started to replace the artist when they couldn't perform live as there were on tour or unavailable.
